Oral Health and Smoking

Smoking is one of the main contributors to gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums causing them to bleed easily when you brush and floss. Smoking increases the development of periodontal (gum) disease, a degenerative disease of the gums and supportive bone and the leading cause of adult tooth loss. Smoking also stains your teeth and causes constant bad breath.

Smoking is the major cause of oral cancer. Often in its early stage, it does not cause any discomfort and is difficult to diagnose without a thorough examination during a regular dental checkup.

If you smoke, you should have regular dental check-ups so we can detect any of these problems early.
